Merlin + Transmission + VPN Port Forwarding Instructions?

Based on some searching it looks like if I want to route only torrent traffic over VPN my best bet will be to install Transmission on the router, associate it with an additional IP address and route that IP address over VPN. Also in order to get the best torrent experience I'll be using a service that allows port forwarding (Torguard in my case). What I'm wondering is if there are any step by step instructions on how to accomplish all of this, especially configuring Transmission to use the VPN port that is forwarded.
