multimedia streaming: usb hard drive or NAS

New Around Here
So I want to start connecting my devices using the Asus rt-n56u for some multimedia streaming. I am trying to decide between getting an external USB hard drive or a cheaper home NAS. I read where the 2.0 USB is going to slow streaming, so I am kind of thinking that the NAS would be better to use the Ethernet port.

I have looked at the iomega 35541 2TB EZ media NAS (newegg for $109). If NAS would be the best option, should this one work with the router?

What do mean "work with the router"? NASes generally don't depend on a router. Do you have a specific concern?

I just want to stream media wirelessly with all my devices at home and online through the cloud. Should I use a external USB hard drive connected to the usb port Asus rt-n56u or should I use a NAS connected to the Ethernet port on the Asus rt-n56u? Which would be best?

Cloud connected NASes give you more options and usually have mobile apps for easier media access. Check out the WD My Book Live. The Duo version review reflects the newer firmware with better cloud access. Single drive Lives now have the new firmware, too.

I am using a USB HDD through the RT-N56U as media server for streaming music, works fine with my AV receivers.
