New Around Here
We recently replaced our router in our small office to the Asus RT-N66U (from recommendations and reviews here) to take advantage of the speed increase after a switch from DSL to cable internet. The speed is clearly faster but we seem to be hitting points where the system lags, and can't really pinpoint the cause or even all the occurrences. I'm hoping someone can recommend some settings or software that can help us track and determine the issue, whether it is router settings, program settings, individual computer settings, incoming internet or something else. I know just enough to bumble around, but not enough to figure out on my own where the issue lies.
Here is our setup.
Bright House cable modem (40 Mbps)--->
Asus RT-N66U router (wireless function disabled)--->
Netgear GS116 Gigabit switch --->
5 computers + a Engenious EPE-24R--->
another EPE-24R--->
EnGenious access point, location unknown (This was set up by someone no longer here, don't know where the access point is but it works, connecting one laptop used in our field, one in the office and my cell phone.
There are also two computers connected directly to the router, one that serves as a main computer for the other computers to log in to for a particular program they use, the other is a computer logged into remotely by one of our off-site employees.
Three of the computers are used for accessing a vendor's database all day long, both up and down-a fourth (the offsite computer) does so sporadically, as well as very basic internet and email. Another computer is used for accessing a vendor's catalog of repair information sporadically through the day, mostly text, some images, but basic line drawings mostly. The other two computers are mostly offline bookeeping with some light internet/email. The network was at one point to be set up for a VPN, but it never worked correctly and isn't being used.
Any help or pointing in the right direction to track down our issue is appreciated!
