The NETGEAR Orbi AX4200 Tri-band Mesh System follows up on the already released AX6000 product. Where the older Wi-Fi 6 product is designed to handle up to 60+ connected devices and is recommended for homes with service-provided 2.5 Gbps speeds, the new AX4200 scales down, not only in price, but also supports up to 40+ devices and targets customers with 1 Gbps internet connections.
Available in two-node (router plus satellite) and three-node (router plus two satellites) kits, the quad-core 1.4 GHz processor-powered AX4200 provides the same area coverage as the AX6000 system and provides client connectivity at two-stream maximum wireless rates of 600 Mbps @ 2.4 GHz (40 MHz B/W) and 1200 Mbps @ 5 GHz (80 MHz B/W). The third 5 GHz band, which has a maximum four-stream wireless rate of 2400 Mbps (80 MHz B/W), is solely dedicated to backhaul operations between the AX4200 nodes.
For physical networking, the AX4200 router includes four GbE ports (three LAN and one WAN), while satellites provide two GbE LAN ports each.
Additional listed features include MU-MIMO, implicit and explicit beamforming, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, a 30-day trial of NETGEAR Armor cybersecurity service (annual subscription optional), guest Wi-Fi networking, and setup/management/troubleshooting via the free NETGEAR Orbi app.
Both NETGEAR Orbi AX4200 Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System kits are now available with MSRPs of $449.99 for the two-node kit and $599.99 for the three-node kit.
