Netgear MCA1001 MoCA Kit - Configuration?

Yadda

Occasional Visitor
Hi I just tried to install a Netgear MCA1001 Kit (2 adapters). My network is 192.168.100.0/255.255.255.0 gateway 129.168.100.10. First off, the kit came with one adapter being on current firmware and the other being one level behind. I update the one to current firmware then attached them per instructions. My VOIP phone does not work because the MCA1001 seems to be using 192.168.0.0 ip range and there are no instructions on how to change the MCA1001's tcp/ip settings so I am stuck. I am not changing my network topology for the MCA1001 so I hope its tcp/ip settings can be changed. Advice? TIA, Dan

I don't know much about MoCA devices, but seems to me they should just be like plain ethernet bridges working on layer 2. They have a built in config IP both being 192.168.0.25?? Configuring them individually(plugged directly to computer) to talk to one another should be all thats needed I would think. Once configured, should work by just pluging everything in regardless of your network IP scheme. Let me know what I may be missing, am curious.

I got confused because the Installation Guide calls the MCA1001 an Ethernet Adapter, not a Bridge, and then talks about configuring it with a IP Address. So, sir, you are correct. I think the directions need to be more clear on this point. Thx, Dan

More:

If I turn off the MCA1001 connected to the MOXI DVR (the other MCA1001 is connected to cable modem), the TV picture in HD is OK. If I power on the MCA1001, the TV picture freezes occasionally. This happens both when channel is set to SCAN and the highest band.

The MCA1001's are not talking to each other as indicated by the configuration utility.

Note that my RR blazes and my HD TV picture is high so why cannot the MCA1001's communicate (my cable coax has 4 way splitter where the cable enters my home from the street with one output port uncapped)?

I direct connected the MCA1001s with a run of coax that came with the kit and they worked fine as a bridge. So I it looks like my home coax is the issue but am not a coax tech so am lost at this point. I was wrong about my splitter; it is a 3-way branded TWC with no ports uncapped, all used. It is marked 1Ghz IN and 5.5dB on each of the connected output ports. The model number for the splitter is #1003W38TW. All splitters are BUS topology (i.e. not IN Point to Point to each output)?

Turns out TWC changed the way I had cabled my living room equipment when they installed a SDV adapter. I fixed that and now all is good!

The MoCA adapter is a Layer 2 device so no TCP/IP involved. Cable like the diagram in the install manual and you will be fine. If you have done that, reply back with how you cabled it for more troubleshooting. I have installed these for 2 friends and all work OK.

Install:

Main Moca: Disconnect COAX from cable modem and connect to MoCA COAX IN. MoCA COAX OUT connect to cable modem. Connect MoCA LAN Port to WiFi/Router.

For second MoCA: disconnect COAX from Cable Box and connect to MoCA COAX IN. MoCa COAX OUT connect to Cable Box. Connect Moca LAN Port to ethernet device or WiFi/Router LAN Port (not WAN Port!!!).

Lights should go green.

I recommend updating firmware on units first.
