Netgear setting-up advice

Jean Lyon

New Around Here
Hi everybody,
I run a medium size LAN from a Netgear 4500 v2: I see checking every day the connection log that a few Ip adresses are trying many times to connect from the internet to my LAN. I would like to ban these IP addresses.
Anybody knows how to do this on the R4500 Netgear Router, which I find quite good value for the price.
Thanks for help.

See if your router supports a fork of RMerlin firmware because it is easy to do in that firmware. Instead of banning IPs, just drop packets from unused IPs.
RMerlin firmware uses IPTables for configurable firewall which is a nice touch.
In a configurable router what i do is add the LAN address to a list. When the List sends a request to a server i add that server to a white list for a few seconds. I than drop forwarding from all other IPs
