Okay, here's a problem that's been driving me nuts for a week.
I have a small network with internet connection using a WAG160N to do the ADSL and DHCP shuff, plus a WNR3700 being used as a wireless access point. There is also a NAS drive plugged into the router. Half a dozen PC's, laptops and netbooks all connect perfectly either wired or wireless, they can share files and see each other no problem. They are all either XP Pro or Vista Home Premium. So far, so good.
I've built a HTPC and used a retail copy of Win 7 64bit Home Premium. It connects okay by wireless and can see both the router and the modem, I get internet access at a decent speed. But it can't see any of the other devices. I've tried with HomeGroup turned on and off, network set as either Home or Work and I've made sure that the network name on the Win 7 machine is "Home-Network", just like all the other PC's.
If I try to go directly to one of the other PC's (e.g. 192.168.1.10), no joy. If I ask it to show me a network map it thinks that there is just itself, the modem and the AP. If I look for the HTPC from any of the other machines using Look-At-LAN I can't see it. The Win 7 PC definately doesn't want to play with all of its new friends.
The annoying thing is that once, just once I managed to get it to see all the other machines and I could open a shared folder in my music library, pull down tracks and play them. No idea how I did it. Since then, nothing. And I've not changed anything to account for the "now you see me, now you don't" tricks.
Please! What am I doing wrong? Surely I don't need Win7 Pro or Ultimate?
