Network Map Client Status

This is a bit OT, but since upgrading from 374 to 376 I've grown in dislike of the new network map client status module.

Question: Is there a similar product out that will give me a list of used IP addresses and will look at the MAC addresses to determine what the manufacturer of product is?

Basically need something like angry scanner but that also has a dictionary of MAC's to device manufacturer so I know what is taking up IP addresses on my network.

If you click on the MAC address in that client status module, it pops up a box which gives you the manufacturer and other information.

That may or may not be helpful, of course. Doesn't give me much of a hint when I click on the MAC address for this Dell Latitude 3540 and it tells me the network adapter was made by "Chicony Electronics" in Taiwan... ;)

All this does is do a lookup on an online OUI database. If Dell didn't chose to have their own OUI range and are sticking to that of their Ethernet supplier, then there's nothing the router can do about it.

Thanks, Merlin - yeah, I realized that! Basically, I was trying to tell the OP that:

  1. The GUI does give him the manufacturer information he was looking for.
  2. As you confirm, that information is often less than useful!
