Preexisting devices renamed "New Device" in DHCP server

New Around Here
I've recently noticed several issues with my RT-AX88U router running FW 3.0.0.4.388_24346.

First, devices with manual IP assignment using the DHCP Server tab are renamed from the Client Name I've previously assigned to "New device". There doesn't seem to be a pattern to the loss of the actual name. This problem occurred with the prior firmware and hasn't been resolved with the current firmware. Rebooting the router doesn't help. I haven't gone and rebooted all 51 devices and would rather not do so if possible to determine if this is the root cause. Some of the renamed "new devices" are offline (e.g., Canon SLR camera) and others are online (various phones). Devices whose names are not renamed to "New device" also include a mix of offline and online devices. The online devices have the correct Client Name in the Network Map list and indicate a "Manual" Client IP address.

Why is the "renaming" happening and what can I do to stop it?

Obvious question:

Are the devices that are appearing as 'New Devices' using a fixed mac address or are they using a random new mac address for new connections ?

Phones & tablets can be set to change their mac address to confuse attempts to track their connections.
Check the lower levels of the Phone/Tablet 'Setup menus' for the ability to switch this on/off.

It goes by different names on different phones etc

If the mac address changes it can be seen as a 'New Device'.

Hope this helps !!!

The router firmware is not perfect. Avoid unnecessarily customizing it if you want to save much time and frustration with firmware quirkiness and having to redo all of your customizations everytime you have to reconfigure the firmware from scratch when upgrading or when troubleshooting real operational issues, not cosmetic issues.

To be fair the quirks have never got in the way for me !!!
What I set stays set and works !!!

The quirks of MS Operating systems are a greater problem :)
