Network set up with as ISP 'combo' modem

New Around Here
I have read all the basic How tos and understand the basics of network set up and advantages of leaving the primary routing and DHCP functionality to a separate router. However the ISP's combo has dedicated ports #2&3 for digital TV, with network cables leading directly to the two set boxes. In this case I presume I have to leave ISP combo as the main router and DHCP, and add my other router as an access point attached to one of the free Ethernet ports on the combo. Am I on the right track?

Thank you in advance!

not true you can do the same with another router as long as you configure it correctly. Take a look at the configurations done and just mimic it.

Some ISPs have specific configs for IPTV while some dont.

Ofcourse if you mentioned which ISP you use someone who has had experience could help you.
