No inbound ftp connection with ProtonVPN

Hello Everyone,

I think i have a unique problem (I assume it's a configuration error), when I turn on the WireGuard client configured with ProtonVPN, the ftp server running on the router is not accessible from the outside at the new IP address. Port forwarding and moderate NAT are enabled in the ProtonVPN config. Where should I look for the error?

Thanks for help,

What is the WireGuard client running on? A Windows PC, a Mac, your router, etc.

What is the make and model of the router? What firmware version is it running?

That said, getting FTP to work over a NAT connection is always going to be a challenge because of the way it use two ports (one for control and one for data) rather than one. If you can use a different protocol (e.g. SFTP) things are likely to be easier.

The ProtonVPN docs say "Note that you can’t use port forwarding and moderate (Type 2) NAT at the same time."

The client runs on the router (Asus RT-AX88U Pro, 3006.102.06), in the wireguard section, by importing the config file generated on the ProtonVPN site. A rule has been set up in the VPN director that directs all lan traffic to WGC1.
"The ProtonVPN docs say "Note that you can’t use port forwarding and moderate (Type 2) NAT at the same time."" - I created the config file on the ProtonVPN website, where it allowed both options to be enabled at the same time.

Check your FTP client settings. Try changing from passive mode to active mode. I doubt this will work but it's worth a try.
