New Around Here
Ok, so first off, I'm not in any way experienced in setting up home networks. I'm a mechanic, not a computer guy. But I can follow directions so hopefully somebody here can help me out. I'm trying to improve my network at home. I have a fairly big house and my cable modem/router is located in one extreme corner of the home, with no option to relocate it, and I generally use wifi devices in the opposite extreme corner of the home. My signal isn't always the best. I have 2 laptops, a netbook, and a wifi-enabled desktop which get used in that room, as well as a blu-ray player which is used for streaming media like Netflix. We use DirecTV as our TV provider, and we have whole home DVR in every room. Because I already have internet running on the coax line in that room for the whole home DVR, I was under the impression that if I plugged a DECA into that line, I could then plug a router into it and I would be good to go. Apparently not.

What am I doiong wrong? Is there a way to set this up?

It should work, but there are some limitations on how it's actually set up.

Are your DVR boxes actually connected to the internet, or are they only networked to each other?

What would really be helpful is a diagram of current network setup (including the satellite cabling) or at least pictures of all of the equipment with each cable labeled as to describe where each cable runs to.

As I understand it, you can't have DECA running on the same line as cable modem, because there is a range of frequencies that they both use.
