With two branches of the code being developed, (378.x.x and 380.x.x) I do not see why they would fix it in the soon to be depreciated branch?

Thanks for the info buddy.

You'd think after 3 months of waiting for this networkmap issue to be resolved they would have at least sorted it by now.

Support really is appalling on that front - I couldn't care less if they want to work on something else - fixing the basic parts of routing on a router should be number one priority, but their too busy working on firmware for new equipment they are now trying to sell. Typical Asus - not giving a crud about supporting existing users but concentrating on selling new gear.

Man I wish I had just sold this thing last year - can't even get half of what I paid for it now and there's nothing amazingly different out there that warrants a jump for :(

They DID sort it out, it's just only in beta code and hasn't been applied to a release firmware yet. There's more to it than just this specific fix they are making a lot of major changes to networkmap in general. These need more time to be finalized.

With all due respect RMerlin (And yes I owe you loads dude!) it's not a proper fix until its in the official release firmware.

The BETA we are using at the moment is well buggy. Whilst yes it sorts out the long name issue I have with official firmware, it falls apart as soon as you try to use half the other functionality of this router.

BETA firmware is by definition buggy (for at least a few). As usual, final code will be released when it is deemed fit.

How many cries Asus hears won't make the work go faster. ;)

Proper resourcing will make it go faster though ;) - It's an area they shouldn't be skimping on and shows their lack of priorities. Sorry I'm beginning to sound like a nagging wife lol :) :)

We don't know what resources are being allocated here. But given the state of the global economy, I would think as much as possible while still allowing them to be around next year too.

I do not see other manufacturers caring about issues to this degree (ever), if it takes longer to materialize, so be it.

You and I don't have the same definition of "sorting it out". I never implied that Asus had made the solution available to the end-users (they haven't yet). Just that they have resolved the issue internally, it's now a matter of waiting for their release schedule to include that fix. You don't issue new releases every time you fix a specific issue - that's not how software development works. The updated networkmap service wasn't ready yet at the time this RT-AC3200U firmware was finalized and began internal pre-release testing. It's a matter of timing.

You managed to fix it bud, but Asus still haven't for end users - says volumes when one individual not associated with a company can fix a bug but the company itself can't or refuses to.

I admire your loyalty to Asus though RMerlin hence will stop here before you get your scotch tape and scissors out :)
