OpenVPN Wi-Fi 7 Router Recommendation

If the budget is limited and BE-class is not very important - GL.iNet GL-MT6000 now claims OpenVPN with DCO up to 880Mbps and WireGuard up to 900Mbps. This device is currently $140 on Amazon US. Selective routing is available in stock firmware. Comes with AdGuard Home pre-installed. OpenWrt vanilla firmware available. Compact size with 2.5GbE WAN/LAN ports.

Just chatted with PIA support and asked about WireGuard config files. The answer was:
I understand that you're looking for WireGuard configuration files.

Diana says: Please note that we only offer OpenVPN configuration files.

Diana says: We appreciate you for sharing with us what you’d like to see with our service. While the feature you're asking for is not currently available, I would be happy to add it to our feature request list for consideration in our future product updates.

I'll just add that those looking into purchasing the GL-MT6000 "Flint 2" for VPN purposes should not upgrade their purchase to the Flint 3 as its VPN performance is slower than the Flint 2. Flint 3: "Enjoy Speeds Up to 680 Mbps on both WireGuard® and OpenVPN-DCO". Many upset users on the GL-iNet forums who bought the Flint 3 only to find out its VPN performance was slower than the 2.

Yes, a bit pricey for the extra 2.5g ports and triband. The 3e might be better if you don't need triband, but the specs are mostly the same including VPN performance.

Thanks for the robust discussion! I held onto my RT-AC86U longer than intended but came across a local deal I think was too good to pass on. For $75 I picked up a lightly used RT-AX88U Pro that seems to fit the bill. Flashed the latest Asuswrt-Merlin firmware and it's running smooth. Hopefully it stays supported for a good while longer!

OpenVPN performance with PIA is ~300 Mbps, which is great! As mentioned earlier PIA stopped providing Wireguard configuration files.
