PIA VPN service (Private Internet Access) on Asus RT-AC87 woes

Has anyone been able to successfully set up PIA VPN service on their Asus RT-AC87 (or comparable) ? I was trying to set it up under VPN client, OpenVPN, using PIA's configuration files but I must not know what I'm doing or it's just not compatible with the router.

I got it to work on my AC68U just yesterday. I'm running Asus Merlin firmware so it may be a little different. Did you copy the certificate into the options? I think some screenshots of the setup page may help in troubleshooting.

If you run Merlin you can just upload the OVPN config file, add your user/pw and you are almost good to go.

Use this setup for Tomato/OpenVPN, it will work with MerlinWRT as well.

I know this is an old thread however Bing (Google was useless) setup instructions using router's firmware. VPN setup guidelines listed on PIA website are confusing.

I have an Asus RT-AC66U refurbished with dd-wrt firmware. I configured router with PIA using the following link:
