New Around Here
Hello..have recently upgraded to Optimum 50 (Arris modem) and have tested results with direct connection to PC versus indirect through router (Linksys EA4500). As per many in the forums, the router drops the speed dramatically...almost in half. So after reading some of the forums and the 3 steps to "build a better performing network" here on SmallNetBuilder I have ordered a wired gigabit router (TP-Link r600VPN) and 2 gigabit switches (Netgear GS105). I am hoping by segmenting my network and keeping the router as a router only, I can improve my speeds up/down speeds to leverage the new service.
I intend to put the EA4500 wireless router in AP mode and use it only for my wireless clients (IOS devices and Mac). When resetting the EA4500 to AP mode only and disabling the router, should I do that before I take everything down for the new gear install..or after installing the new router and switches? I've never set an AP up before. I've read the "how-to's" and think I can, but don't know what is the best time do it.
Thanks for any advice on this, and/or setting up the new network.

I don't think it matters much whether you do it before or after. You just disable its DHCP and set a static IP on the LAN side, then connect it using one of the LAN ports to the main router and bind the EA4500 on the main router (ie, assign it a static IP on the main router using the MAC address of the EA4500 LAN, the same IP you gave the EA4500 to its LAN). It doesn't really matter which LAN port you use on the EA4500 but make sure it's not the WAN port
