past experience;
bs dd-wrt on a linksys wrt1200acv2 since 2017
yamon (monitor) running off a fast write flash.
near future plan;
replacing that router with asus rt ac88u|ac3100
avoid stock firmware to enhance features and privacy
need to fill;
enjoy as much of the features i used on dd-wrt
and a more powerful/penetrating 5.0ghz radio.
but must have 4 (2.4&5ghz) sets of ssid's
my concerns;
bs and kong dd-wrt can be hard to get stable these days, so
i'm interested in merlin as a stable full featured alternative,
without having to learn linux.
i already skimmed asuswrt website, and am left with the following issues;
privacy:
does your dsnmasq ENCRYPT dns so your ISP is unable to read your queries at all.
can trend micro and other metadata collectors living on asus routers be completely disabled
even if it's at the risk of losing some of the desirable features they provide.
LAN qos;
can i throttle ALL up:down traffic (not "intelligent" by traffic type)
can i assign different throttles to the wired ethernet and the various wifi ssid's
monitor;
is there a way to group LAN ip (made static to their mac) so groups of ip's can be compared to each other.
is there a way to group each of the 4 sets of 2.4+5.0 ssid's so their usage can be compared to each other.
can device names (associated default to static mac:ip) be edited so they are more familiar to the viewer.
