PPTP and OPENVPN performance terrible

When I connect to my ac66u with either type of VPN I can only upload at 300kb. I can ftp into the same network at 3mb. Any idea what would be causing this? The client machine is a win server 2008.

What is the connection at the AC66 and what connection is at the client? The weakest part of the link will be your limiting factor.

my home connection is 18M/1.5, work is a an OC1 50M. I'm running 3.0.0.4.354.29 with openvpn in tap mode.

Here's work via open VPN(kind of a round robin connection. I'm using cisco VPN from home, remote desktop to connect to a server at work, remote desktop on the same net from there to connect to my work desktop, then openvpn from there to my AC66 at home)
