New Around Here
Hello Everyone,

As you can see I am new to this forum. Please forgive me if this or a similar type problem has been addressed in this forum already. I am a bit undeer the gun and am by no means a Network Admin.

My local office is divided between 2 floors connected with 2 Netgear FS750T2 Smart Switches. We connect to the internet via a Cisco 2811 router with an SHDSL 4mb/4mb connection. The 2nd floor switch is connected on port 50 to a patch panel that is connected to a 3rd floor patch panel with CAT6 cable, patched to the 3rd floor switch. The Cisco 2811 is connected directly to the 3rd floor switch.

The problem I am having is computers on the 2nd floor cannot establish a PPTP VPN connection outside our network. The pptpclnt.exe utility returns a WSASocket () failed: 10013 error when testing for GRE traffic.

Initializing WinSock...

Enter data to send to server (between 1 and 255 chrs.), then hit enter:
-->test
Successfully connected to server using TCP port 1723 (PPTP)
Sending data to server
Waiting for a reply to the data which was just sent...

Closing down socket...

Yet, computers on the third floor have no trouble at all connecting the VPN.

Goodbye!

Im sure there is something that I am missing as far as the packets moving from the 2nd floor switch to the 3rd floor switch. I just don't know what I should be looking for.

The server the VPN clients are trying to connect to is outside our network. The Cisco 2811 is open for all ports and protocols (we use another router behind the Cisco and in front of our network for NAT and Firewall etc.) And, as I mentioned, the 3rd floor computers (patched to the switch directly connected with the Cisco) connect the VPN with no problem. Only the 2nd floor computers cannot connect.

I appreciate any and all feedback that can be provided.
