  • SNBForums Code of Conduct

SNBForums is a community for everyone, no matter what their level of experience.

Please be tolerant and patient of others, especially newcomers. We are all here to share and learn!

The rules are simple: Be patient, be nice, be helpful or be gone!

Problem with SNBForums Moderator

I can find no other way to reach whoever is behind SMBForums. I strongly feel that a moderator has shown disrespect and persisted in preserving misinformation by freezing the thread. I would like to know how to appeal this for correction. The moderator is Colin Taylor, self-proclaimed piece of the furniture. I am Robert DuWors and willing to be open, forthright, and respectful.
I am not a moderator, I'm just a regular user like yourself. I have no ability to lock threads. I am not a "self-proclaimed piece of the furniture". That label is automatically generated by the forum based on the number of posts I've made.

Your thread was locked by RMerlin who is a moderator as well as the creator of the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware.

Thank you for your explanation. OK, I am new to this world but not born yesterday. Obviously there are big fish in this pond. I apologize if I stumbled into a community that seems to follow rules distinct from my experience. I respect and admire Asuswrt-Merlin software which you may call firmware if you wish as that is a long accepted industry term but it is also a product of good old fashioned software engineering like any other piece of classic procedural coding, not magic inviolate, AI, or beyond human comprehension. I still fail to see why extending iptables is a crime against what is "embedded in the firmware" when so much discussion exists of doing exactly that.

I locked the thread because you just posted in an 8 years old discussion. It's considered bad etiquettes on most forums to post in old threads. I've seen forums frowning upon posting on one month old thread. In this case it's been 8 years.

Fair enough. Please close them with stale date if so, automatically under that policy.

Sorry, but software has become a bizarre mix of the very old and very new. Much of Merlin overall, is very old, very well refined technology implemented with a suburb modern software engineering practices.

It is true that AI ages in days but the core *ix architecture and tool set is 50 years old, the Open Systems Interconnect architecture and tools aks DARPA protocols are 40 years old, the world wide web basics are 30 years old and no newer than 10, and the *WRT code base is at least 25 years old. Imagine if the Wright flyer had still been current alongside the 474 - it would be as if Unix and neural nets co-existed in the same universe. Many of the fundamental questions and issues are the same as always and do not automatically stale date unless enforced.

I apologize for naively offending community standards and will in the future reopen any thread over a year with a new back link to it.

I am especially curious why current online discussion may be bad ideas as I too am encountering issues with Guest Pro Vlans that are not clear to me.

Feel free to join a current discussion or start your own in a suitable subforum. Try not to suppose and assume wrongly and then insult everything and everybody for it, if you want others to join and contribute to your topic discussion.

Understood.

I believe that I have been respectful, and have not played by the rules directed at me. If you have grounds for claiming disrespect, please provide it and I will acknowledge as appropriate and take full responsibility in all cases. First, what it I presuppose incorrectly? Secondly, who or what did I disrespect? Corrections are always welcome.
I acknowledge using the wrong letter in the acronym. My mistake, SNBForums it is.

Tell you what, why don't you delete this entire thread. If there is no offline way to reach the moderators who send mail to a personal address then that's the way you like it. Its your court, play as you wish. I am done with this unprofessional behavior.

This thread is to discuss 'Problem with SNBForums Moderator'. There is no problem with SNBForums moderator. End of discussion. My advice to you was how to best pursue your next discussion regarding issues with Guest Pro Vlans... take it or leave it.

This is not needed. I see nothing personal here. Folks don't look at post dates and reply to people never seen for years. This is why very old threads get locked after bumped for no good reason. Just open a new thread and live peaceful life as before, no drama. 🤝

Yeah, let's move on. But one quick question, that paid for tech consulting service keeps coming up and I fell for it. Does it really contact anyone at SNBForums for $5?

Absolutely no idea what you are referring to.

Wow. It is on every single page. Deepest apologies, they did that so well, consistently, so aggressively that it appeared to be a sponsor. Dark times.
