Proper firmware upgrade procedure

Can someone detail the recommended firmware upgrade procedure for Asus RT-AC68?

I'm currently at 380.58 and want to upgrade to Merlin's latest 380.63. (this is more than 3 releases)

I read:
NOTE: resetting to factory default after flashing is
strongly recommended for the following cases:

- Updating from a firmware version that is more than 3 releases older
- Switching from a Tomato/DD-WRT/OpenWRT firmware

How do I reset to "factory default"?

Thank you.

Reboot, flash and test.... if something act weird after that, then Restore defaults

How do I reset to "factory default= Administration tab

The first three links should put you on the right path.

The last link should help with getting your reset router setup fast (and properly). And, if that doesn't work? Then it will at least have for you a human readable (and copy/paste able) file of all your settings. :)

or you could flash the 380.59 firmware to your router, then flash the 380.61 firmware then go right to the 380.63 firmware.

That isn't a fix to prevent glitches/bugs from showing up (for some).
