Sorry about modem. Brain rot. I know better. It has also been several weeks since this happened and my recollections may be off. One major point I have recollected while typing, I believe I actually pulled the power connection at the router and replaced it. I apologize for lack of veracity and coherence. I was here checking on the latest releases and though I would just see if anyone recognizes the problem.
I do not know how the router is constructed. If the switch truly does switch main power rather than supply a signal to something as a PC does with the front panel "power" button, then what I described could not be true. See paragraph above.
The UPS powers my modem (really - the modem), router, switch, and VOIP. The UPS shut down for low battery after a while. Perhaps something odd happened at that point.
If there is corruption or failure in the right places, I could cause it not to boot at power on. But not affect the power light. I honestly am not sure if the power indicator was on or not. When it occurred, I looked at other indicators and saw everything was powered and operating. My VOIP device was showing no connection. I believe I saw no lights or activity on the router. Cycled power on the router and the router booted and everything else was fine.
I was hoping someone had seen this behavior. And I just discovered I am now unable to connect to the router management screens. Worked fine some weeks ago, before and after, I last updated the Merlin release. I am looking for anything that may have changed. There has been a patch Tuesday and updates to some security software since I last logged on to the router management function.
I must consider the possibility of a haunting.
