Rebooting RT-N66U brings up bing

Being the cautious type I decided to re-apply firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3754 by downloading it from http://www.asus.com/uk/Networking/RTN66U/HelpDesk_Download/

After applying the firmware I am now finding that Bing is popping up on my windows 8.1 PC when I reboot the router. This appears to be something to do with the ActiveProbing on the NLAservice.

Strangely this has never happened before I applied this firmware.

Probably something to do with W$ 8.1 that happened concurrently with your upgrade. I've been using that version on both a RT-N56U and an RT-N66U and I have seen no signs of Bing...better not on my Linux boxes:D

This behaviour just struck me as weird as before this week it never happened and seemed to coincide with the manual install of the firmware.

I guess it may have been something in an M$ patch. It only seems to occur on router reboot and not on network pull, and changing ActiveProbing in registry does block it.

Most odd......

I've also seen it, on various firmware versions from Merlin 374.38_2 (which I was using just last week for a while again) all the way to the most current. I don't think it has anything at all to do with Asus or Merlin FW; I think it's a Microsoft thing; also, it doesn't happen when I'm using Chrome or Firefox, just IE 11 in Windows 8.1.

Frankly, I'm beginning to like the Bing interface; their pictures are a lot more interesting than Google's plain page (well, the widgets are fun), the news page layout is better, and search is alright, to the point that you really can't tell the difference between Bing and Google unless you really, really look for it.
