New Around Here
hi guys, great forum you have here!

I'm looking to buy a router for a small office that is located on one level. Currently have a basic one from Verizon, and we just think it's time to upgrade. moved to a new netgear switch recently and installing a VoIP system. The VoIP system will use for the time being regular phones so there is no need to support massive VoIP traffic on the LAN just yet.

Requirements are to support :
Gigabit LAN (we have 2 ports on the switch and would like to use them)
Wireless N (future proof)
reliable and powerful (current router have drop offs)
guest SSID a plus
it can be used/refurbished

Any recommendations? we really love e4200 but it's too expensive, anything similar in a more reasonable price? maybe a last year model?

Cheap and reliable don't usually go together.

If dual-band is too expensive, then look for single band N routers. Lots to choose from under $100.

Hi thx for the reply.

we aren't looking for something cheap at all. if a top of the line router costs about $180 it reasonable to assume that are last year models/refurbished ones in around $100-$130.

We are looking for something reliable and powerful to upgrade our network.

Just another quick question: what's the difference between selectable 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz to automatic one?

thanks again for all the help.

I don't know what you mean by "automatic". Selectable dual-band has one radio and supports only one band at a time. Simultaneous dual band has two radios so can support clients on both bands at the same time.

There is no single-radio router that automatically switches between 2.4 and 5 GHz.
