Router port going bad?

Hi there. Asides from trying to lower buffer bloat on my AC86U I've been dealing with out packet loss to a particular game server. I haven't yet got into looking at Ping Plotter or Wireshark but I got on the phone last night and called my ISP and asked to see if anything was going on. Everything turned out good. The phone tech suggested I tried a different CAT cable. While doing so I also changed LAN ports. I noticed a decrease in out packet loss. I'm still in observation mode but I'm trying to figure out if possibly one of the ports is going bad. I was also wondering if CAT cables have different levels of quality. All my ports are gigabit (Router, NIC, etc) and I've been using Cat 6 cables, even though I have 30/3 speeds, hah :) The game server is based on a HUB so I don't know the ip address of the server, if I did it would of been the first thing I looked into. So here I am asking about my router port and CAT cables.

Halp!

Thanks

EDIT: Can WiFi cause EMI on CAT cables? The cables I've been using are 24awg UTP

Yes, differing quality of Cat. :)

The port may not be the issue, it may simply be the interaction between that specific port and that style of cable too.

Cat6a cables come in all kinds of quality. The most expensive is not the best, by default, either.

Try picking up quality Cat5e cables to test with. Particularly those with different types of ends on them.

Sometimes, the physical +- tolerances on different components all add up in the wrong direction and cause issues like you're seeing.

You may even want to try an inexpensive 5 or 8 Port switch to see if that plays nicer with your other hardware too. ;)

Now that I remember, I did go through the automated call and have the modem reset before I spoke with the help desk. Wonder if that did it? I have a problem where when I'm trouble shooting things I don't change one thing at a time, ugh. So getting back to my modem and the cables I did put everything back the way it was and the outbound PL to the server maintained the improved state I noticed. I'm assuming that my Cat6 cable and router port are ok? I just hope the problem is a static issue and not a dynamic issue.
