What vdsl moden router supports merlin or openwrt firmware?

I have a tp link vr2800 & and a tp link vr400 v3 router, can I use any third party firmware on those routers?

You would be best served with a separate modem and router. Then a RT-AX86S Asus or similar Asus router.

DSL-AX82U supported by GNUton with an official Asuswrt-Merlin fork.

Your VR2800 router is pretty decent device with 4-stream AC Wave 2 radio.

I would also separate the modem and router and get whatever I like better for both.

problem with vr2800 is that the ipv6 firewall filters the icmp, theres no option to disable it. which gives you lower scores on the ipv6. dsl ax82u what cpu does it use? as I heard it has to be a broadcom chip, otherwise you will get ping spikes on the openreach network.
