Routers that can do wireless 100Mbps ?

technologiq

New Around Here
I recently upgraded my internet to a 100Mbps connection. I have a Apple Airport Extreme (2nd Gen) that has no problem doing ~100Mbps via ethernet but I'm sitting in the 50-60Mbps range wirelessly (I have my router set to only 5GHz 802.11n). Looking at the table of routers available on SNB it looks like throughput is in the ~50Mbps range for everything? Is this correct? My AEBS is 3 years old and speeds are still the same?

Hopefully I'm confused - can someone set me straight?

Thanks Tim. I think I'll just upgrade to the latest Airport Extreme Base Station since I have a lot of Apple equipment and then I can easily continue to use my Airport Disks for time machine backups, etc.

It's frustrating that wireless throughput has remained fairly stagnant for the the past few years. I hope that the development of things such as 802.11ac pick up in the near future.

If you're doing 5GHz and in the 60Mbps range that's probably about as good as you'll get, which is still pretty good.... In my experience my 2.4GHz wireless N gets about 60Mbps, whereas my 5GHz wireless can just hit the cusp of 80Mbps, both tested internal to the network and not out to the WAN. That's also with LAN Speed Test though and not the more accurate IxChariot that Tim uses.
