RT-AC3200 and Intel 9260 connection speed ?

Hi

Just received an Intel 9260 NGW wifi card and installed in my laptop in place of the previous gen 8265. The new card (supposedly) supports connection speeds above 866Mbps. How do I set my Asus AC3200 to provide such speeds ? At the moment I am only connected at the same 866Mbps rate as previously. The AC3200 is running the latest Merlin firmware.

No Asus router supports 160 MHz channel bandwidth, the upcoming AX88U is listed as being the first but it is still potentially months away from release.

And my good old RT-AC66U in pair with BCM943460MC still does more than 70 MBps LAN-WLAN :D

Not true, the Asus BRT AC828 which uses essentially the same hardware as the Netgear R7800 and Synology RT2600 supports HT160 as it uses the Qualcomm QCA9984 Wi-Fi chip. However unlike the latter two the 828 is for some reason priced very high.

I stand corrected, no non business devices.

The BRT-AC828 does not support 160 MHz channels. Neither their marketing page, nor the Asuswrt source code shows anything related to 160 MHz.

Wait what , that's really odd. Maybe they didn't file for FCC permission. I suppose it's a business product so a bit more conservative with such features I guess. The chipset is capable so I assume at least via third party firmware like LEDE/OpenWRT it should work?

I mean even the R7800 is listed as AC2600 without too much mention of HT160 because in HT160 mode the router acts as a 2x2 unit when serving to 160Mhz clients.

Only caveat with the 9260AC is it doesn't support split 80+80 Mhz bonding so only the one lower contiguous 160Mhz channel works with it in my experience. Decent performance of about 110-114 MB/S downlink and up to around 40-70 MB/S uplink at around 15ft with 2 walls. Pretty much near Ethernet limit performance wise at least on downlink.

Depends. Larger width probably means that the amps also need to be tuned for that bandwidth, therefore I wouldn't be so sure that just a software change would be enough to allow its use.
