RT-AC66U 5ghz won`t show

I just bought and installed the RT-AC66U 2.4/5ghz duel band router i have the latest firmware. The 2.4 ghz seems to work as it should. The 5ghz side NONE of my wireless hardware(cellphone,laptop desktop wireless) will see the SSID I have tried many different things nothing seems to work. I have even had the SSID names for both the same with different password still nothing for the 5ghz say`s "authentication problems" for the 5ghz side. I even tried to enable a guest on the 5ghz side with a SSID different and still none of my wireless hardware will pick it up.

If anyone can help that would be sweet!! Also if it`s a hardware issuse SHAME on Asus and TigerDirect for not posting this on thier website or box" To be able to use the 5ghz side of this router your hardware MUST be compatiable" Sorry to rant their but i`m ticked spending 190$ for this router and only can use 1/2 the featuers.

To connect to a 5 GHz interface, your wireless card need to support the 5 GHz band. Just like to connect at 802.11ac speed, you need a wireless card that supports 802.11ac.

Again SHAME on Asus and TigerDirect for NOT posting that info on the web site or the box it came with so noobs like me and others will not buy it until we upgrade wireless cards.

Good money after bad

Before you rush out and buy a new USB WiFi adapter that has both 2.4Ghz & 5 Ghz radios for your computer do your research on 5 Ghz performance.

Its range is often shorter than 2.4Ghz and it has poorer penetrating power. You may determine its not worth purchasing a new adapter unless your present adapter is G only.

In the meantime enjoy the excellent 2.4 Ghz radio in your new router.

The main benefit of 5 GHz is if you are in an area with strong interference in the 2.4 GHz band, and you need a less crowded band. Interference sources can be your neighbour's 2.4 GHz routers, microwave ovens, older 2.4 GHz cordless phones, Bluetooth devices.

Otherwise, don't be fooled by the higher number. 5 GHz isn't really any faster than 2.4 GHz, and it does have the price of a decreased range.
