RT-AC68U in AP mode + media server?

Angus66

New Around Here
I've searched quite a bit here and couldn't find an answer to this.

I've got my RT-AC68U configured as an access point with a USB 3.0 drive attached with several movies on it. I set the drive as shared and I can see it in the Asus network map.

When I go to set it up in the FTP server menu I'm missing settings to name the FTP server + I can't add any users (the admin acct is listed though).

Does the RT-AC68U need to be in router mode for the media center to function?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A recent Chrome update broke compatibility with part of the AiDisk webui. Use a different browser when editing users or folders.

Also, those functions usually only work while in router mode.

That makes sense as I use Chrome by default. Thanks a bunch for the info!

I suspected that might be the case. Unfortunately for me it looks like a real PITA to get my Comcast modem/router combo to operate in bridge mode so I can use the RT-AC68U as my router.

Chrome also seems to cause problems when you try to set up FTP user accounts. Could not get it to work until I switched to Mozilla.

You have to call comcast. They'll put your modem in to bridge mode while you're talking to them on the phone.

UPDATE:

I was able to get the media server running without changing the RT-AC68U from an AP to a router.

I set up several user accts w/IE (thanks RMerlin & CaptainSTX for the Chrome incompatibility info!) and used ES File Explorer to find/play the stored media on the Android tablets in our household.

I still may call Comcast and have them set the CC modem/router to bridge mode so I can use the RT-AC68U for all my wired/wireless network needs. I'll play around with the functionality I have now before doing that however.

Thanks again everyone!
