There is a possibility of interference, but it is more likely to come from the USB 3.0 cable on the USB drive, not the router. From testing, a USB 3.0 cable with poor braiding and foil can cause interference. You can read more about the issue from Intel's documentation. Refer to section 3.1:
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...-papers/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.pdf

The RT-AC68U does have shielding. It is a large shield around the antenna connectors (See picture below). This should protect against interference better than a small shield around the USB 3.0 port.

The USB 3.0 circuits are also embedded into the multi-layer PCB of the RT-AC68U, which will also help mitigate the possibility of interference.

thank you, this made me feel better about my investment, i would assume the problem is the firmware right now right? which shouldn't be a problem when you release better firmware.

So I purchased the ac68u today, set it up and its working so much better than my returned ea6500.

but I seem to be having an issue with the usb/Hdd I plug into the router,
I am not able to write or delete files on the shared drive. ive tired all options but nothing and I cant find any info on it.

My firmware is 3.0.0.4.374_205

Can somebody please confirm if this router support 3TB usb plugged into the router for media server streaming?

updated to 291 but still cannot add or delete files on the usb shared drive. any clues on how to solve this?

If this is formatted in ext2/ext3 make sure your file permissions actually allow any user to write to the disk.

If it's FAT32, keep in mind you cannot write files larger than 4 GB with that filesystem.

Otherwise, double check permissions on the sharing configuration page to ensure you do allocate write access.

so, I formatted the flash drive (4 gigs) to ext3, plugged it into the router and everything disconnected from it, all wireless networks disappeared , lost internet connection.. waited a few, restarted, nothing. unplugged the usb disk and everything went back to normal.

Your post never mentioned anything about losing Internet access, you were talking about being unable to write to the disk. If you are using ext3 then it means your filesystem permissions are wrong. chmod the disk and its filesystem to 777.

If everything goes down for a minute or two, then it means your router has just rebooted. That has nothing to do with writing issues however and is a different problem. You might want to do a fsck on that disk to ensure it's not corrupted.

I only lose internet access and all networks disappear if the usb drive is formatted at ext 3, its not a reboot, the router actually goes dead silent.

If the format is fat32 or ntsf,the router functions fine and I can read the data and stream it to my devices but I cannot paste a video file to delete files etc. ive tried the share , share with contact, ftp etc nothing seems to allow me to write/modify the usd drive.

my hard drive doesn't work at all at USB 3.0 speed, it tries to make it work but with no luck;
both wifi's (2,4 GHz and 5 GHz) were switched off;
after every FW flash I did hard reset with nvram clear (holding power + wps buttons for 10 seconds);

this what I get in logs with the latest Merlin's FW

I see a lot of transfer errors in your log. This is usually a problem with the USB cable or the disk itself.

You could try running a disk check from a PC, but I suspect the issue is more hardware than software.

Hmm,
If indeed it were hw problem, might be ultimately ASUS ought to come out with AC68U Rev. 1? Some hw issues can be masked or made to go around the problem by f/w but in certain cases hw mod. is the only remedy.

I have no problems with USB 2.0, so is it possible?

Sure, if your cable is not up to specs, and having troubles dealing with the higher data rate negotiated by the USB3 port.

Hi,

I had same experience with ext3 partition on RT-AC56U, here is my post (I have no solution for this, but I'm sure it's not disk, or formating problem, because I tried more disk and these disk work well on AC66U):

You were right, there was an issue with USB cable, tnx

so I purchased a usb 3.0 HDD, and on my laptop I get 120MB/s read write (checked with crystal disk mark) but when I plug it into the routers 3.0 slot, I am only getting 22MB/s max speed, and yes I have turned off the 3.0 interference option.

on what FW ? on latest 371 or Merlin's you should able to get 30-50MB (from what I've read on forum)

You'll never get close to 120 MB/s on a router that has a 800 MHz CPU and 256 MB of RAM.

on firmware 371, on my wired pc it goes to 31MB/s, my laptop is on ac, 866MB/s speed, full bars, why does it only max at 22.

Also, I had my acronis image my system to the drive connected to the router, and it started going well, writing at 22MB/s, then after 10m it drops to 400kb and disconnects.
