RT-AC68U w/ PIA VPN DNS Leak Help Needed

I’ve got an RT-AC68U with the Merlin firmware. I set it up to use the Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN service.

Two things:

1. I’ve got Comcast with speed rated at 100 down / 5 up and am only getting 28.4 down / 4.64 up through the PIA VPN. I figured things would slow down – but not this much.

2. I ran a few different DNS leak checkers and it found Comcast DNS servers:

69.241.23.194 rose-cns01-eth1.cran.msp1.comcast.net Comcast Cable United States
69.241.23.198 rose-cns05-eth1.cran.msp1.comcast.net Comcast Cable United States
69.241.23.195 rose-cns02-eth1.cran.msp1.comcast.net Comcast Cable United States

I am in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area and I think the msp1 (MSP relates to Mpls/St Paul Intl Airport) designates this location. I have the router set to use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I assumed that by running through a VPN the DNS leak checks should have shown something else.

Do you see anything that I should configure differently? Is this actually a DNS leak? Anything I can do about the huge speed degradation?

I’ve attached screenshots of my setup.

Thanks for your help!
