RT-AC86U "unhandled level 1 translation fault"

Hi all, hope someone can help me understand what's going on. I am new here and to Asus Merlin, so my apologies if this is something obvious or that I shouldn't be asking in this forum.

I checked my system log on the Asus Merlin web interface (general log) today and the browser froze immediately. I managed to access it by instantly stopping autorefresh, so I could check what was going on. I found a huge log with thousands of entries all pointing at the same thing. This happens constantly, 1-2 times every second the router is on. I just want to know:

• Is this something I should worry about?
• What is it?
• Should I fix it? (How?)

I have Skynet, Diversion, entware packages, scribe and uiScribe installed and active. JFFS partition on a recently formatted USB with ext4, 2GB.

This error happens at least once EVERY SECOND. Example the System Messages window:

That's the watchdog service crashing. I have never seen any other instance of this happening, so my first thought would be you need to follow the recommendations posted in the 384.19 changelog for the RT-AC86U.

I am still at version 384.17.

What's the watchdog task exactly, is it attached to any of the scripts I have installed, or a regular process of the Asus Merlin routers? I haven't noticed any issue with our connection, stable as usual, working fine. Is there a way to fix it without having to fully reset everything?

I recently changed the USB drive where I have the JFFS with a brand new pen drive and reinstalled everything so I assume problem is not from there.

The watchdog service runs continuously making sure other essential processes (like the GUI) are active. If it detects one that isn't (maybe because it's crashed) it restarts it. If the watchdog service itself is crashing that could indicate that the firmware is corrupted somewhere, hence the recommendation to reformat JFFS and factory reset the router.

Regarding the JFFS, sorry, I thought it was located on the USB storage, but it's the swap file that's there you are right. However I did format the JFFS following the stated procedure (at the same time of changing the USB drive too) and reinstalled everything.

I will try with a reboot, and if it continues I'll have to factory reset everything :|

I may as well update to 384.19 then.
