Anyone else notice that when you enable DDoS Protection in the firewall settings that the port forwarding stops working after a few hours? I've tried both original and merlin firmware with the same results, after a few hours the ports are closed even when the logs shows that they are being forwarded. I disable DDoS Protection and I haven't seen the problem come up again.

Will the AC88U be able to run at 160MHz on the 5GHz band with a firmware update? The Nighthawk X4S now runs at 160MHz.

So one of the bullet points on Asus product page for this is:
  • Multiple capacity Wi-Fi with revolutionary MU-MIMO technology

SNB's review says this though:
"
MU-MIMO not supported
"

So does the AC88U support MU-MIMO or not? If so, is it present and enabled in the current F/W? If not, is it something that can be added in the F/W later?

Stock official firmware does not support MU-MIMO. There is an Alpha build out that supports MU-MIMO. Official MU-MIMO firmware should be out sometime Q2 or later of 2016. Read above comments for info.

If you scroll to the bottom of the product page, there should be a disclaimer that MU-MIMO is not supported on this and the AC5300 and AC3100, i.e. all Broadcom-based 4x4 routers.

The X4S uses a new QCA radio chip to get 160 MHz support. I don't see 160MHz support listed for the BCM4366 4x4 Broadcom radio.

Also remember you need 160 MHz support on client side, too. It's another feature that is useless without new devices.

Yes, also tried it from a different computer. Same error message even now, half a day later.... I will try update the firmware to the MU-MIMO later today, let's see it that does anything...

How is the MU-MIMO FW running for you?

Actually I have never loaded that, but in the meantime the WTFast error dissappered. I don't really use WTFast (having doubts about its claimed benefits), I just wanted to avoid the error message...

I finally contacted ASUS about the problems I was having with my RT-AC88U as a media bridge. After going back and forth on a few things, they want me to send the router back to them and have issued me a RMA.

Update on my RMA with ASUS. Got an e-mail last week from ASUS that they will be sending me a replacement RT-AC88U router. From the S/N of the replacement router (S/N begins with FCIAGW--it was listed in the online RMA status page) , I'm guessing it may possibly be from a later manufacturing lot than my original router (S/N began with FAIAGW). According to ASUS, they tested my original RT-AC88U router and found that the wireless connection kept failing.

Haven't received the replacement router yet. It's being shipped by FedEx and the tracking number ASUS gave comes up blank in the FedEx tracking system. I've asked ASUS for an updated number that I can track.

With fingers crossed, hope it arrives and I have a RT-AC88U that finally works as a media bridge.

Where is this status page so others with this router, can find out if they need to RMA their router....

The status page is for issued RMAs to check their repair status--not to see if any router S/Ns may be covered by a possible repair. Sorry if I confused you on that.

I got a link to this ASUS web page page in an e-mail from ASUS with RMA#. I then needed to input the RMA # or S/N.

Here's the link to the page.

Go to the AC88U down load page and look at the firmwares. There is one that says email Asus to receive MU-MIMO firmware via email.
