RT-AX58U Has WPS Reset Changed?

I have a brand new RT-AX58U (RT-AX3000U) and I messed up the admin password and decided to do a WPS reset and start over. Only I couldn't make the reset work. The instructions say turn it off, press and hold WPS and power it on. Continue holding WPS until the light starts flashing. Only it never went to flashing. The light turned on a off a couple of times but never went to flashing. I held it for up to 3 minutes but no flashing. It appeared to power itself down and wouldn't do anything until I powered it off and back on.

I've done a WPS reset on my older RT-AC66U B1s and it always worked.

Has the WPS reset procedure changed? Thanks.

Firmware is 3.0.0.4.386_48908.

There is no "flashing part" in the instructions for your model. You're looking at the instructions for your old router.

It's rather a moot point anyway, because if you've forgotten the password you can just do a normal reset. No particular need for a hard reset.

Sorry, I said that wrong. I meant I shouldn't expect the flashing part on the AX58U.
