I am trying to troubleshoot this whole thing. I have been having speed problems with the internet for a while. I used to have an older Asus router (RT-AC87R) and bought a new one to see if that fixed the problem. The new one is an RT-AX86U. Internet speeds are largely the same. The internet will randomly and intermittently disconnect, and then reconnect. I don't see anything in the system logs, but I am not exactly sure what I am looking at. Can anybody see anything in here that could help point me in the right direction?

Turn off logging of dropped packets. We can't see anything useful when the syslog is being flooded with these entries.

Log into your modem (not the router) and look at its log for indications if/why the internet connection drops.

You need to give us more information:
Firmware Asus or Merlin and what version (If you have not upgraded the firmware, you should!).
Bandwidth expected from ISP and type (DSL, cable or FIOS)
Speed problems where, Wired or WIFI?
WIFI settings used?

Sorry. Here is some hopefully better information
- RT-AX86U router running Merlin firmware, version 386.3_2
- Speed from ISP is max 25Mbps, DSL
- Speed problems are wired and wireless. It seems that it was initially good after installing the router, and using the M&M configuration

- Attached are screenshots of my wireless settings.
- Attached is also a section of the latest system log this morning

Thank you for any help you can provide to get me pointed in the correct direction.

Sep 15 03:51:32 WAN_Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.
Sep 15 03:51:35 wan: finish adding multi routes
Sep 15 03:51:35 dhcp_client: bound 66.241.165.19/255.255.254.0 via 66.241.164.1 for 1684 seconds.
Sep 15 03:51:37 WAN_Connection: WAN was restored.

I guess there you have an indication. Is your router directly connected to the WAN?

Besides that - when you had the same issue with your ISP on the old router and now the same on the new router should be a hint that it might be your ISP as the troublemaker? :)

No, my router is not directly connected to the WAN. It is connected to a modem first. Is this a setting that is wrong in my router, or with my ISP then?

look at the post @ColinTaylor he said that you should login in to your modem and look at the logs there. I guess the log which you attached was from your router and not the modem. May be you find more information on the issue on your modems log.

To make the above quote more clear for you:

This is what most people have here - a modem to connect to the ISP and a home router. The modem is connected to the WAN port of the router. This "WAN_Connection" in logs is your Wide Area Network connection, through the modem to your ISP and out in the wild. The ISP assigns an IP to your router, similar to how your router assigns IPs to your devices on your LAN - Local Area Network. When something goes wrong and your router can't get an IP from your ISP, you get the message "ISP's DHCP did not function properly".
