Any idea what might have caused that? Merlin flash could address that. Perhaps the stock firmware update failed fully? Doubtful.

Sorry, no idea. There have been a been a few reports of the same sort of crash (link) but the cause was never identified AFAIK.

I doubt flashing Merlin's firmware will make a difference in itself as the core code is the same as Asus'. You could try disabling all of the AiProtection functions to see if that makes a difference as that has been known to have issues in the past. Maybe try experimenting with going back to an older firmware version in case it's a bug that crept into the current release.

Sorry if I missed it, but I don't think you have performed a full reset (M&M Config) yet on your new RT-AX88U?

That is the first thing I would be doing to ensure the router is in a good/known state. Also helpful to further troubleshoot afterward if the symptoms persist.

Correct. That appears to be a next step, though there is one wrinkle.... This is the first 24-hour period where a drop-out of the Internet connection hasn't happened and that STRANGELY coincides with the addition of my PC's MAC address to the MAC Clone field. I don't expect that to hold, but for now I want to see what happens if, for no other reason, to be able to tell support that this made no sense.
