RT-AXE7800 Attached USB Drive Question

New Around Here
I have an external HDD attached to a RT-AXE7800 router for basic networked storage. I have a question on whether I can improve file management speeds.

- I understand that there are limitations when transferring files from a networked machine to that drive via wireless. I average about 20MB/s. However...
- Why, when using SMB (Windows 11), if I want to move files around on the router-attached drive does it operate at like 4MB/s. I have found that I literally need to disconnect the drive, attach to a local machine, perform the file actions, and then plug it back in. I never experienced this on an older Linksys router. Same-drive operations worked fine...copy, delete, move, etc. Am I doing something wrong, is there a setting I'm missing, or is this normal?

Yes...I know that the router isn't intended to be a NAS...and eventually I will pay the $$$ to set up a proper one...but this is what I have for now.

Perhaps a slowdown might happen with USB 3.0 Mode/equipment/cabling generating EMI that impedes nearby wireless throughput(?)

Or maybe the volume of storage is stressing the available router memory, resulting in a slowdown(?)

I think it might be something with SMB and Windows 11. I just used FileZilla as a test and was able to move folders and files around almost instantaneously. It is more cumbesome than using File Manager though.

I understood current ASUSWRT to now support SMB 2(?) When it did not, SMB 1 needed to be enabled (turned ON) in Windows (Settings\System\Optional features\More Windows features):
