Firmware version 3.0.0.6_102_38961
- Release note -

Important:
After installing this firmware, we strongly recommend performing a factory-default reset to activate every new security adjustment.

Security Enhancements:
- Password Policy Upgrade – Minimum 10 characters with at least 1 letter, 1 digit and 1 special symbol, and no consecutive identical characters; hardens defense against brute-force attacks.
- HTTPS on 8443 – Management interface now served over TLS by default.
- UPnP Disabled – Universal Plug and Play starts in the off state for reduced surface exposure.
- AiCloud Authentication Hardening (CWE-287) – Added layered verification.
- Authentication Logic Refactor – Removed redundant code paths for a lean sign-in flow.
- Memory Safety Guard (CWE-476) – Introduced null-reference protections across critical services.
- Enhanced IPsec Parameter Validation – The existing input checks have been hardened.
- Data Exposure Mitigation (CWE-200) – Reinforced controls on sensitive pathways.
- Detailed Audit Trails – Expanded logging within the authentication module.

System Improvements:
- System Stability – Reduce reboot occurrences.
- Connection Stability – Core algorithms refined for steadier links.
- Scheduling Accuracy – Timed tasks execute reliably under PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP WAN modes.
- Client List Maintenance – Resolved an issue that prevented offline devices from being removed from the client list.

Thank you

I installed it on my router (I was previously using Asus-Merlin 105). I find that the interface is occasionally slower, especially when I'm connected via WireGuard through the router.

I also encountered some strange bugs when tweaking the Wi-Fi settings too much. Changing a parameter temporarily disables all Wi-Fi networks (which is expected), but if you make too many changes, you start seeing error messages in the logs. Devices appear on odd networks—for example, a Wi-Fi device shows up as connected via LAN, or a 2.4 GHz device appears on the 5 GHz band. After a reboot, everything returns to normal.

That said, if you don’t constantly fiddle with the settings, the system is stable—no disconnections, crashes, or unexpected reboots (I’ve never had any). I performed a full reset after the update and configured the router from scratch, without importing any configuration files.

I find the Wi-Fi coverage slightly improved.

However, there’s now a requirement to use a password with at least 10 characters, including one letter, one digit, and one special symbol, with no identical characters in a row. Also, the connection requires installing a certificate. Given the security changes introduced in this firmware, that’s perfectly reasonable

My router automatically updated to this firmware version. It breaks VLAN tag on the WAN, causing the internet to no longer connect as VLAN tag is required by my ISP.

The VLAN section is hidden from the admin panel and even forcing it to be enable doesn't work as the setting does not save.

Had to revert back to previous version (and disable automatic updates).

Indeed, I don't see a VLAN section.

You guys are most likely talking about different VLAN settings. @Joeyjoec needs WAN VLAN usually located in IPTV settings page. @matrix is perhaps looking for LAN VLAN which this router doesn't support.

This is the VLAN section which disappears after the update to 3.0.0.6.102_38961. It's hidden with the style tag on 3.0.0.6.102_38961, so the fields are there, just hidden with HTML ("display: none;"). Forcing them to be enabled with "Inspect Element" and removing that style displays them again, but the settings do not save.

You have reverted to previous firmware already, but when you find something like this - report it to Asus in Feedback Form.

So I couldn't on the new firmware because the internet was down due to the bug, but I tried on the reverted firmware and the form is completely broken. Looking at the console, the ASP page it submits the POST request to was complaining of missing fields and other errors.

Someone else I spoke to has created a ticket with ASUS about this VLAN issue.

Seems like fun to have this router... 🤕
