RT-BE92U super slow WIFI

New Around Here
Hi,

I just bought an Asus RT-BE92U and have found it the biggest heap of rubbish i have ever had anything to do with. Keep in mind I am far from an expert but this is not even up to par with the router i want to replace. It has been on the latest official firmware (3.0.0.6.102_38980) and now it is on the latest merlin firmware (3006.102.6) and the WIFI performance hasn't changed.

So currently i have 3 x Technicolor DJA0231(Telstra gen 2 smart modem) routers joined by Cat6e cables all using the same WIFI SSIDs and I can get up to 380-400Mbps on 5GHz and up to 40Mbps on 2.4Ghz when testing my internet connection (Starlink) using speed test by Ookla.

So initially, I setup the asus and connected it in place of the router that was connected to the starlink. The only settings i have changed on the asus are the IP, the DHCP range to allow for my static IP range and i have separated into the different WIFI bands, I then gave the asus WIFI band different SSIDs from the old WIFI. I have been connecting a laptop and samsung S22 phone, with extremely poor results. With the official firmware I could only get ~100Mbps DL when using the 5GHz while practically sitting on the router and 40Mbps on the 2.4GHz. I have reset via the reset button numerous times which did nothing to help.

Today I learnt about and tried the WPS hard reset which may have had some positive impact, but FAR FROM ENOUGH. After the WPS reset I was able to get ~270Mbps/100Mbps (5/2.4G) once again practically sitting on the router with nothing but the starlink connected to the router. Where as the router I am wanting to replace can get 380Mbps with a steel framed wall between me and the router. If I move roughly the same distance from the asus router the WIFI is unusable, i can connect to it but if i am lucky i might get 3Mbps when using 5GHz and the 2.4GHz connection tries to connect but drops out soon after, which puzzles me. Typically 2.4GHz has always been stable at some distance on every other router i have had and 5Ghz is faster but not quite as stable.

I still have the option to return it but, i am hoping that someone here may be able help restore my faith in Asus and point me in the right direction to fix this thing. At the moment I am starting to think the good reviews all over the net are just well paid sponsors.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

You had to check SNB Forums before purchasing it. It is perhaps the model with the most issues reported.

It has few hardware revisions already for unknown reason, common for ASUS BE-class routers software issues around Trend Micro engine, common for all Wi-Fi 7 products false advertising around supported features, model specific firmware issues and frequently reported connectivity issues on top. It's fantastic indeed. For tri-band ASUS BE-class router go for RT-BE96U, for dual-band RT-BE88U. Both popular around models. They also have most of the above issues, but at least don't cause anger management issues to the user.
