RT-N56U AiDisk FTP failure

Fortkentdad

New Around Here
I'm new to this forum and have some experience with networks but not much.

I was pleased to see what the AiDisk offered, an FTP access to my portable USB harddrive (a small seagate). I was hoping friends and family could be given an access password and code to browse my picture collection.

I hav followed the aidisk instructions and it did create an URL for me. But I cannot access it on the web. I get an "cannot display this webpage" error in both IE and Chrome.

I've checked the DDNS settings under advanced and see that sharing is enabled, DDNS client is enabled. When I click on the Update - it processes, says Complete then an error box pops up saying invalid URL. I've changed then name for the URL I've used, a many times, always an error message. How do I create a valid URL for my FTP. Tried in the AiDisk Wizard and in the Advanced Settings for DDNS. No name seems to be valid.

What am I missing here?

Trying Again to get DDNS to give valid FTP site

I tried when I first got this router to set up the USB disk using AiDisk so it woudl be available at ftp://mydisk.asuscomm.com but got no where. I posted a request for help here in July, sadly no one replied.

So I am asking again. Nothing has changed. Went back to the Router and tried both setting up the an ftp://mydisk.asuscomm.com through AiDisk and through the WAN/DDNS settings, but not luck. I get "invalid IP" for every effort to set ftp://ANYTHING.asuscomm.com and every thing I tried failed. I also tried to log in, but while I could get a log in screen, I could not get past the that screen even though I entered the user and password I had created.

How do I set it up so I can get FTP access to my USB disk?

hey.. asus ddns server is never doing very well. at least to me. what i did is, chose a third party ddns server. i set up one from no-ip.com. never had to set up ddns ever again. =) there are a few ddns server that is supported on the firmware, give it a try. btw, no-ip.com is free.

no-ip

Ok, I set up an no-ip account. entered the information into the relevant sections in the Router set up, in WAN-DDNS - entered my myname.no-ip.org, and did not get the 'invalid ip" error which was good. But I still can't seem to connect to the disk via the FTP server.

Downloaded filezilla's ftp client. It tries to connect to my no-ip account but the connection fails.

I'm using port 21 and tried the port forwarding thing, that didn't help.

I'm using Windows 8 and Windows Essentials/Defender which includes a firewall. The rounter also has a firewall. What should I look for in the firewall to ensure that I can connect via this FTP to my disk.

I did try the Open Port Check Tool at http://canyouseeme.org/ and it was not able to see me. It returned errors when trying to see my IP.

Any help will be appreciated.
