Just rebooted using the reboot button on the main page.

It performed a full factory reset. I was not amused. Anyone else had this?

You need to provide more info - you are the first I've heard with this issue.

I think it may be pilot error.

it will do this if it detects corruption, easy to fix, upload your backup. simple

Asus recently implemented some nvram validation code in the firmware. It's possible that this code got triggered somehow.

They reverted most of that code in 374_4422, so it's possible it doesn't work properly.

For reference - I am 100% sure I did not command a factory reset.
