RT-N66U not able to get full speeds

Missing an entry for 1Gbps puts me on alert.. Apparently this driver doesn't want its users trying force 1Gbps for some reason..I dug out my ancient thinkpad which came with an intel gigabit chip. I can see 1Gbps in the list.

Technically, 1000BASE-T(X) require autonegotiation to always be supported and enabled. - "Other than speed and duplex mode, autonegotiation is used to communicate the port type (single port or multiport) and the master-slave parameters (whether it is manually configured or not, whether the device is master or slave if this is the case, and the master-slave seed bit otherwise)."

Since forcing is out of spec, I bet that the "1Gbps" in that list actually just enables AutoNegotiation rather than forcing 1Gbps.

"Auto-negotiate" covers 1000Mbps, 100Mbps HD/FD and perhaps 10Mbps variants. "1000Mbps" limits to 1000Mbps or nothing.

That's my understanding of the items in windows driver. No dispute on requirement of auto negotiate for gigabit PHY to operate.

"operating speed is allowed to be manually selected by disabling Auto-Negotiation in Control Register 0, selecting 1000BASE-T mode of operation still requires that Auto-Negotiation be used. This can be accomplished by continuing to use Auto-Negotiation while limiting the advertising to 1000BASE-T capabilities."
