RT-N66U Router & Iphone Speeds?

Just giving this topic a bump to see if anyone has any other ideas?

Still sitting with the same problem and it seems I am not the only one.

Perhaps when Asus finally update the firmware with the new drivers it will improve it?

My iPhone 5 pulls in about 69 Mbps when using the Speedtest app, although, I use the 5Ghz band at 40Mhz (not 20/40). It should also be noted that I have enabled QoS and have set the Preamble to Short.

Edit: I see that you raised Tx Power. Try changing it back to default. For the most part, raising it will add more noise. I'm not an expert but I believe that adjustment is for custom antennas.

Both the iMac and desktop pc going at full speed but any of my IOS devices still running at around 10 meg short

I did some tweaking today and found out that 40 MHz has to be on for my iPhone to have the same speed as my MacBook Pro. I know you've tried it, but it's something to keep in mind.

Although most likely unrelated, run Namebench to find the best DNS. Then under WAN - Internet Connection set "Connect to DNS server automatically" to No and enter the Primary and Secondary DNS's from your Namebench results.

You can also set Network Key Rotation Interval to 0 (in the Wireless - General menu)

This is a bad idea. Will potentially ruin performance with CDNs or geographically-distributed servers such as Youtube.

Yes. Many CDNs like Akamai, or services like Youtube have servers all over the world. Your ISP DNS will often point you to the closest Youtube server. Many ISP even host caching servers on their network, which are managed by Google (mine does for instance). Using a different DNS elsewhere in the world might point you to a Youtube server that is far away network-wise, having a bad impact on streaming performance.

A DNS query generally takes milliseconds to resolve (a poorly performing DNS might perhaps push it to a whole second), and only has to be resolved once, as the response gets cached both by the router and your PC. Saving, for example, 100 ms when resolving the IP will have no visible impact on general performance - it only sends one query, so it's not a cumulative improvement.

fwiw, here's a sample of Apple devices routed through an N66U loaded with RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_270.26b.trx, with standard settings:

~65 Mbps iPad mini on 5GHz
~65 Mbps iMac 2009 on either 2.4 or 5GHz
~20 Mbps iPad 1st Gen on either 2.4 or 5GHz (I suspect CPU-bound)

~65 Mbps is also my throughput on a wired connection so no complaints from me.

My iphone 4S gets 32 Mbps using the speed test. N66U is locked in on 40Mhz channel width.

I do not have this issue but on the .354 firmware both my iphones in the house drop the 5ghz all the time and will NOT allow us to reconnect. Anyone else having this issue?

(my speedtest states I get 19/5 and I pay for 20/5)

354 beta versions shouldn't be used for RT-N66U as it has issues with the wifi due to a bugged driver , have to wait till ASUS release a new fixed version and merlin releases a non-beta based on that.
