Rt-N66U Router verses AP

What's the advantage of using this device as a Wi-Fi Router verses a Wi-Fi Access Point? Basically I just want a good wireless device. Right now I have it setup as a router. However, if I had it set up as a AP, I would be able to access my modem GUI easier (I would not need the modem bridged).

If your modem also has a router feature, then there is little to no advantage to have your RT-N66U set as router, you better set it to AP mode.
Realise that with the RT-N66U set as AP, all routing, port forwarding and firewall functions will be taken care of by your modem/router and do not forget to check for firmware updates of your modem/router to fix security issues.
