Set up DS211 and laptop now won't sleep...

New Around Here
Hi all,

I bought a Synology DS211 with 2x Seagate 2TB drives set it all up and now I can't get my laptop to sleep. My laptop is running Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

I know this is basic, but this my level of expertise, I used to close my laptop and it would just sleep. Now when I close it the screen goes off but it carries on running. When I open the lid the screen comes back up on the login page straight away.

So to turn it off I have to do a full shut down and when I do it says 'are you sure you want to shut down as others are still using this machine' or something to that affect.

So is it possibly that my laptop still thinks the NAS is connected? Even the NAS was turned off.

Any suggestion would be hugely welcome. I'm fed up of having to shut down my laptop!

Welcome fellow Synology 211 owner! (just purchased one last week, to me its fantastic.).

Perhaps your windows power settings were recently modified on your laptop.

In Windows (I'm writing this using XP, but vista should be similar) goto: Start: Control Panel: Power Options (you can also click the battery in the lower right corner by the clock).

Open the power management settings and check to see what power profile you're currently using. Once you've selected this profile you can modify power management behavior to the scheme you prefer.

Ie, "When Laptop is Closed" select the Sleep Option.

Please report back if this helps.

RyeWit, you are a star!

I checked all the settings and they were all fine, close lid = sleep, power button = sleep, and so forth so I was a little lost. then I saw the Return to Default button. I hit it and Bob is now my uncle!

Cheers for the advice and point in the right direction.

I've got some other questions now but I'll start another thread to help others who might have the same question.

Bowstos.
