Setting up my AC68U Correctly

Hello everyone I have recently (this past year) left Cisco to go Asus Wireless Routers. I have owned the N66, AC66, and now the AC68U. I am trying to find the best or most economical way to setup net filtering for my kids along with a way to block vpn for their devices. My reason being is that my oldest goes to a charter school and all of the students there use vpn on their devices to bypass items on the network at school. I have found that mac filtering works great to prevent this but it is an headache to cut off and back on when children are doing homework. I am using the latest Merlin firmware that allows different DNS settings (I believe haven't messed with it yet). I am just trying to appropriately setup my network so I don't have to worry about content being viewed that is out of scope for my children's ages. Now on the blocking vpn item I hope to only make that if possible a rule for the kids devices since I have to remote in from work sometime. I thank you all for your help and any performance boosters or suggestions would be great. I am running a Charger 30Mb/5Mb connection just fyi.

for the dns filter, i like opendns

for blocking vpn lol, that's really going to depend on the skill of your son. you can start by disabling the passthrough options.

what do you know about the vpn(s) he is using?

I will have to look my daughter is not tech savvy per say but if one kid at school figures something all kids so it. I will look at her iPhone and check the VPN application. And I was using open and when I had DSL, will look back at it. Thanks for your help!
