New Around Here
Hi there;

This is my first time here and I'm hoping somebody out there can help me figure this out. I'm trying to put together a network in our church and I need some advice on what switcher and firewall to use. Also, I apologize for asking all those questions but they appear to be simple ones (to whom understand the subject) and requires short answers.

In the attached diagram you will see more computers and phones that we have at the moment, we are just planning for the future.

We have divided the building in 3 sections: front, middle and back and the distance between front and back is about 200'.

In the back, besides the PC's and IP Phones we have a workstation streaming video at 1Mbps.

At the front we have a Windows 2K8 server (file and print server) and a cable modem (our internet speed is 30Mbps download and up to 5Mbps upload).

At the front and in the middle we will need wireless access to the network and internet.

The IP phones are connected through the internet to a hosted phone system.

We have to make sure we don't allow file transfers and internet usage break our phone communication (use some QoS i believe) and also we have be able to keep the video streaming stable.

This is the scenario, now, let's go to the question:

- Which router/firewall should we use? I already have a Netgear FVS318, an upgrade to a FVS338 would be necessary?

- Based on the attached diagram, should I keep one 24 port switch on the front and bring multiple cables all the way through those 200' or should I use two 16 ports switches, front and back and connect them through a single cable?

- Should I be using smart switches so I can get QoS which appears to be important to the IP phones?

- Do i need gigabit switches?

- Can the wireless access be provided by any wireless router (considering we have a few we are not using) or do we need a "wireless access point" to work with the router and switch?

Thanks in advance.
