Small (very small) NAS

I've have had a Buffalo Linkstation Mini with 2 x 2.5" drives, but died of old age.
Is there something similar in size or smaller with 2 x 2.5 or 2 x M2 ?
Eventually just one drive if an USB for backup is available. Ethernet only, no wifi, no vent!

What router do you have? Many have a USB attachment on them. My first baby NAS was an old hard drive put into an enclosure and attached it to my Asus RT-AC86U. The router itself made it available over SMB to windows devices. Doesn't get that much simpler than that, but it did use memory on the router for managing it so it's easy to go "too big".

it's literally Network Attached Storage

It's a check box feature like other somewhat working Asuswrt features in YMMV category.

Isn't everything? You can not like it all you want, but you can't redefine the term. NAS == Network Attached Storage.

If this is your understanding of NAS every shared drive in Windows is also a NAS. Asus actually never advertised USB file sharing feature as NAS. I don't think @2301 is looking for this type of step back solution. More likely something similar to what they already had.
