SMBv1 only?

I'm on Merlin 386.14_2 AC88U trying to setup BACKUPMON and noticed when I tried to use SMB network location BACKUPMON fails to connect but pings work fine. Eventually I got to enabled SMBv1 on W11 (where the share is hosted) and that made it possible for me to connect which begs the question, is SMBv1 only availble? In router samba share there's SMBv1 and SMBv2 but for some reason through CLI only SMBv1 works.

Edit
Ah, the feature that supports SMBv1 and SMBv2 are for Samba Server but it seems like Samba client only supports SMBv1?

Also entware seems to offer SMBv4 client but BACKUPMON only supports up to SMBv3.01.
Even still not sure if installing the entware pkg would allow for SMBv4 where SMBv1 is running natively.

I think you're confusing the SMB version (e.g. 3.02) and the Samba version (4.18).

With Windows 11 there are some additional tweaks one may need to make if they're having SMB issues. Microsoft made changes that causes problems accessing network Shares. See the following:
It's possible making the tweaks may help access at SMBv2 or higher if the network device supports it.

With the RT-AC88U being EOL by Asus, and with the RT-AC88U no longer being supported by Asus-Merlin firmware, and the 386 firmware track no longer being supported, one may have to resort to using Entware to try and update Samaba/SMB. No idea if the following discussion is relevant since it involves a different router running different firmware.

Yeah, there are some threads discussing how to replace the built in Samba with the Entware versions which are newer. But I don't recall easy step by step descriptions on how to do that quickly.

@bibikalka Your router's cifs module does not support SMBv2. See this thread:

The RT-AC88U is old, running on the Linux kernel 2.6.
